My friends have been urging me to create a blog so I can amplify my thoughts to a wider audience. I thought that the blogosphere is only for the intellectuals and the pretending intellectuals. Since I think I don’t belong to any of these two camps, I thought that the inducement to join the community of bloggers was an insult to my person. After some time, I realized that my friends may have a point. The blogosphere is after all not for intellectuals and pretending intellectuals only. It is for all who think and care to share what they think about anything or any event under the sun. Well, then, if this is the criterion for becoming a blogger, I submit.
Early this week, I was reminded of this call to blog and finally decided to accept it. As to when should I start blogging, I left it hanging in the air until a find a good name for my new blog site. This was so until I read the word “Crosswind” in the office parking lot.
Crosswind. I thought it’s a beautiful and catchy name for a blog site. Consequently, I was led to do research on the meaning of the word. Accordingly, Crosswind is a “wind blowing at right angles to a given direction, as to an aircraft's line of flight” (American Heritage Dictionary, 2010). It is a wind that makes the landing of an aircraft challenging but has to be acknowledged and dealt with as it is part of nature.
Similarly, my thoughts are not usually conforming to the opinion of the many, if not the majority. Yet, they are products of discernment and logical reasoning. Hence, whether they conform or not to the opinion of many, they have to be accepted as a valuable or invaluable contribution to the dynamic flow of discussion that will ultimately decide on the generally accepted public opinion. Hence, Crosswind would give justice to the character of my most often non-conforming thoughts.
I may be immediately dismissed for being a self confessed non-conformist; but, I assure all of you that I am not non-conformist for the sake of not conforming. In the same way, as in many instances, I am a conformist but do not conform for the sake of conforming.
I am a simple servant of reason – but a reason informed by faith.
So friends, enjoy a thought provoking flight with Crosswind.
